GARY and his Buffalo at winterblast NORTH EAST TRIBE SPOTLIGHT
BUFFALO! By Gary Wristley Well ever since I saw the buffalos at Old Stone Fence while I was hunting my Red Stag I knew I had to shoot one! I got it together with Steve the owner for a day and his son was my guide and with the rest of my Northeasttribe friends tagging along to watch and for the fact we were there because some others were going to do Hog hunts we headed to the woods and the Buffalo herd!.I had to pick the one I wanted to shoot and since I could shoot any one except the HUGE lead bull I had my job cut out for me as there was a few real nice ones there! After chaseing the herd around the woods a bit I found the one I wanted with the help of Steves son my guide! I was shooting a single shot 45-70 rifle which I felt was plenty to do the job. We stalked within range and when I got a clear shot I let a 405 grain bullet fly! The shot caught the animal solid in the vitals, but the animal acted like it was no more than a bee sting! The guide told me that these animals take a lot to put down so I got into position for another shot! I let fly another 405 grain bullet to the vitals and this time the animal took a few steps and wavered then fell over! The guide had to get on a quad to move the other big bull away from mine. When it was out of the way we went in to check out my Buffalo and take pictures! That was a once in a lifetime hunt for me and I want to thank all of my Northeasttribe friends for being there to share the hunt with me(and some meat!)
