Post Fence Post hole Set.
J W Crawford has Suggested this Set. (JW has a Video out on Trapping, I'll have to get were it can be bought and will post it.)

I posted this set on another forum last April and a lot of people liked the set and its design. I thought I'd post it here for anyone interested. Its a set that I showed in both my Fox I and II Videos. I received a LOT of letters from folks who said they used it with success.

This set was designd by myself and a good friend and master trapper. It is an absolutely deadly set. Its a non-traditional hole set that can be used for spooky or refusing fox. It can actually be used anytime but is essentially a changeup set. It works wonders for diggers and adult females that normally refuse standard hole sets. I can't tell you how many large females i have caught on this set. It is a deadly monster of a set.

Step 1.

Dig a hole approx 8-10 inches wide and 10-12 inches deep. A tile-spade works best for this. The hole should be round and the sides steep and shear.

Step 2

Pound a disposable stake in the hole, making sure it is securely fastened. A normal 18" stake won't work. A 24" would be fine but needs to be in the botom of the hole. No exceptions.

Fasten trap to stake and sift dirt in the bottom of the hole. Place a large #2 or 3 coilspring trap in the bottom of the hole and twist to lock in. Bed trap.

Its VERY important that the trap be at least 8-10 inches below ground level. This is critical. Put 1- 1 1/2 inches of dirt on the trap, creating a low spot above the pan...sides sloped up.

In this picture the trap is only about 6 inches deep. This picture was taken this spring in hard, dry conditions. When I make this set during the season i make sure it is 8-12 inches deep.

This set will be tough to put in where it is rocky.

Place lure directly on top of the pan. DO NOT use the same lure you have been using anywhere near the spot. Change it up with a new lure/scent. Just plain urine or gland will work well.

The idea is that the Fox or Coyote (never caught one on this set but a few student of mine have) will paw at the bottom of the holetrying to uncover or locate the lure/scent. They cannot dig lightly because all their weight is on their foot. They fall in.

Have NO obstructions anywhere around the set. It should be clear of any debris or loose dirt. Smooth away any loose dirt thats around the hole. You want the Fox to feel secure walking around the set...not pressured or forced.

Its been said that this set is in Del Kramers Fox trapping book from the 70's but is designed differently. I've never seen it but can tell you this set is a killer. Below is a guy who pestered me for a few days till i nabbed him. It was a pup and the hijinx stopped after he was caught. This set will work in almost any situation and will hold its own against hay sets, dirt holes and flat sets.

Give it a try if you feel inspired...
